The Basilika St. Martin is a beautiful old abbey church that was built in the place of an older Romanesque church, in the early 18th Century. The spectacular basilica has Baroque architecture and is considered to be the largest baroque church structure in the country. The church's dome stands at a height of 67 meters (219.81 feet) and its striking facade is dominated with beige and cream colors. The interiors of the church are equally impressive. The ceiling is decorated with 18th Century frescoes, painted by popular artist Cosmas Damian Asam. Painted mostly in white, the interiors also feature a breathtakingly beautiful altar. There are tombs of the Welfen family in the church. In the church's courtyard, there is a replica of the Braunschweiger lion statue. Today, the basilica is not only known for its regular services, but is a prominent attraction in the city as well.
The Benedictine Weingarten Abbey was first founded in 1056 by Welf I, Duke of Bavaria. It is also popularly known as St. Martin's Abbey. After a dissolution during the German mediatization in 1803, the abbey was re-founded in 1922 by the Benedictines of Beuron Archabbe. Over the years, the abbey was used as a guesthouse until 2010. Currently the abbey functions as a refugee home for over 130 people. The most prominent feature of the abbey is the beautiful Gabler Organ built in 1735. It is known to be the 44th largest organ in the world.
Lindau Lighthouse dates back to 1853 and is a marvelous lighthouse located on Lake Constance. It has spectacular architecture and is open to public. Kunsthalle Ziegelhütte is a museum and cultural center in Appenzell, Switzerland. Along with the exhibitions displaying paintings by two local artists, the gallery shows works of modern-day art too. It is based in a brick factory from the 16th century and has a café and a museum on its premises. Other activities like dance events, readings, and concerts are performed at this venue frequently.
