Situated near the Sumter County Courthouse Square, the Black Belt Museum traces the history of the Black Belt area between Alabama and Mississippi. The area was known thus, owing to the enslavement of African-American labor on the cotton plantation in the area in the olden days. The museum exhibits contain artifacts, photographs and documents about the ethnic group. There is a skull of a mosasaur as well, that will not fail to enthrall you.
