Established in 1892, this popular racecourse is comprised of a variety of different sporting events such as two racetracks; Chester and Bangor-on-Dee, as well as a polo field, horse shows, concert venues and a variety of fine dining. More than 200,000 people visit Chester Racecourse each year, making it a symbol of British culture and heritage. Llangollen Motor Museum is a small yet interesting museum that houses a collection of privately owned cars, toys, motorcycles and other memorabilia. It is an old fashioned museum with a personal and quirky feel. The collection dates from 1912 to 1970. For most it might be a trip down the memory lane.
Llangollen Town Hall situated on Parade street is housed in a historic building built in 1867. A farmer's market is held here on every Fridays which is visited by the locals in large numbers. Llangollen Town Hall also serves as the town clerk's office and is home to the council chamber. Various performing arts events are also organized at Llangollen Town Hall which is entertaining and a must-visit for fans of performing arts in the city while in the neighborhood.
Llanymynech Village Hall is a part of the Llanymynech Business Enterprise Centre. It offers rental space for business events and meetings. There are two rooms- Tal Humphreys Room and the Defra Room that are equipped with projectors, a huge screen, wireless internet service and a seating capacity for around 20 people. The main venue however can seat 200 people and is used to host parties and celebrations.
The Grade II listed building of the Holy Trinity Church, Greenfield, was built in 1870. This simple, but beautiful church underwent modernization 2010, making it a more diverse space that is utilized by a number of groups and organizations for meetings and events. Regular services are held every Sunday. Services on the third Sunday of every month are accompanied by performances by the church's youth music group.
Built in 1435, Nantclwyd y Dre in Ruthin is believed to be the oldest timbered town house so far identified in Wales. Open to public, the house has an extremely rich history and is said to comprise of Seven Ages reflecting seven periods of its history and development. Over the years, this archaic black and white house was home to different owners has been altered, renovated, extended and redecorated accordingly. The main attraction for the visitors is its unique ‘Seven Ages’ tour.
Along the picturesque Gowy Valley in the village of Bunberry stands the ancient and unique Bunberry Mill. Replacing an older 11th Century mill, the Bunberry mill has been restored and is in working order and is still able to mill fine whole grain flour. Owned and managed by the Bunbury Watermill Trust, the mill also acts as a museum and depicts the village’s rich history and the evolution of the mill itself. Providing hands on guided tours, the mill is an absolute delight for the entire family.
Oakfield Manor is a beautiful country house that now serves as the headquarters of the Chester Zoo and is rented out for weddings. It is a listed heritage structure and was built in 1885 and has an attached stable that is as old as the house. The house has a red sandstone design and displays a Tudor-style decoration. It is a nice stop if you are visiting the zoo or want to host a quirky wedding in the zoo.
