St Mary's Church

"An ancient Parish in London"

St. Mary's Church in Hendon is one of the ancient churches in London city. Hendon is a suburb in North London. The present structure retains few of the elements from the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries. However, this church was only extended to a great extent during the period between 1914-15. The sprawling churchyard features arresting monuments. The oldest part of the church dates back to 13th Century. Cedar and Yew trees are also found in the churchyard. The church's key memorial is dedicated to Stamford Raffles, Singapore City's founder. He resided at Highwood Hill. Iconic football club Arsenal's pre-war period team manager, Herbert Chapman's grave is also located in this churchyard. The church is open to public on all days of the week. This churchyard was used as one of the locations in 'Dracula', helmed by Bram Stroker. The huge churchyard overlooks an iron-wrought fence to Sunny Hill Park's countryside. There are several memorials and tombs in its premises.
