London Fields Brewery

Inspired by the immutable spirit of Hackney, London Fields Brewery established a name for itself as the borough's first craft brewery in over a century. The beer is brewed on-site and is served alongside a delicious food menu, organic wines and All Press coffee. Besides the usual variants, seasonal and small-batch releases are served as well attracting the attention of a more discerning clientele. Tours of the brewery offer an insight into the processes involved in the creation of these distinctive brews and end with a beer tasting at the taproom. Special events like live music performances and quiz nights are often hosted at the taproom as well, adding to the vibrant ambiance of the London Fields Brewery. If you'd like to try your hand at homebrewing, sigh up for a class and shop for supplies at the London Fields Homebrew Store.

Wahaca Covent Garden

Created by Thomasina Miers, a winner of the BBC's Masterchef series, Wahaca purports to serve real, authentic Mexican street food to hungry Londoners, and it delivers. The interior decor is fresh and funky, with bright, vibrant colors and lots of light. Often crowded and loud, Wahaca isn't for the sophisticated, but for food-lovers who look for inexpensive prices. The fun atmosphere for leisure dining sets the perfect ambiance for families, twenty-somethings, or anybody else on the go. Call ahead for more details.

Princess Louise

If you're looking for a traditional Victorian pub in the heart of London, then the Princess Louise is the lady to track down. Behind her modest exterior, the Princess is one of the most interesting pubs in London. Completely renovated in January 2008, this pub features original glazed tiles with beveled and engraved mirrors. Around the oval bar, the space has been divided into areas with dark wood and etched glass partitions. You can enjoy a fine pint of Samuel Smith's, a glass of red wine, or solid pub grub in one of the little booths within.

Portobello Star

The Portobello Star is said to be Robbie Williams' local pub and Chris Evans, Princess Margaret and the cast of Hollyoakes have all enjoyed drinks here. A quiet place with comfortable seating, it is usually dominated by old men watching the horse racing flickering on the TV in the corner. However, on weekends and market days it can get quite hectic. The bar, in its various previous avatars has been in existence since the 18th Century and has a lot of historic character to show for it. Pub food is served on weekends. Cocktails are a specialty and the talented bartenders mix with aplomb. There's draft beers and other spirits as well. Make sure you sample a hot toddy, as with lashings of brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, honey and hot water, it's great for colds and winter chills.
