The Maryland Dove

Constructed in 1978 with a design based on a 17th-century trading ship from England, Maryland Dove is one of the prime attractions in St. Mary’s City. With an overall length of 76 feet (23.16 meters), it is an impressive exhibit floating on the historic city’s shore. Visitors can climb aboard and know more about the lives and challenges of the sailors on a merchant vessel. They can also explore its fascinating technical features which helped the crew to survive on voyages that lasted over several months. RAL Art Center

A striking red door welcomes you as you step into the RAL Art Center, where art and community take center stage. A nonprofit organization established in 1949, it serves as a platform for artists to showcase art in all forms. This art center houses the Pike Studio, the Stouffer Exhibit Room, and a Gallery. Displayed here are beautifully eclectic pieces, eye-catching handicrafts, and exquisite photographs, amongst many other equally unique creations. Leonardtown Wharf

This a scenic waterfront area in Leonardtown. Outdoor activities at this beautiful place include canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more. It is a popular spot for weddings and other private events too. You can find a playground, boat slips and a floating dock at this site. Visitors can take a stroll down the boardwalk while enjoying the spectacular view of this area. It is a perfect place for a day picnic with your family and friends by the Breton Bay.

The Old Jail Museum

This prison was built in the year 1876 and was used until 1945. Today, it is used as a museum where visitors can see the cells where prisoners spent days of hardship and struggles. The granite block and brick structure also display house-related artifacts in its jail keeper’s quarters. This place also features the Leonardtown Visitor Center and a museum store.

Newtowne Neck State Park

Opened in 2009, Newtowne Neck State Park is flanked by Saint Clements Bay on the west, Breton Bay on the east and Potomac River on the south. This beautiful 794-acre (321 hectares) state park is nestled on a peninsula. It has many scenic trails to explore. This water-facing park offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting and bird watching. Newtowne Neck State Park is not only a haven for nature lovers but also a place where history and ecology converge.

Tudor Hall

Tudor Hall is a historic house that is nicely located in the heart of Leonardtown. Built in the 18th century, Tudor hall is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in St. Mary's county ans is also on the list of the National Register. This two storey brick house has undergone transformation over the years. The interior finishes of the house is simply amazing and will take you back to the Greek period. A calming spot to visit with family or friends and know more about the history and architecture of the place. The house also overlooks the Brenton bay.
