Exactly the kind of theater organization that should be in every community, the Lubbock Community Theatre (LCT) has been around in Lubbock since the 1940s and continues to provide live community theater. This organization allows ordinary citizens to take on new roles and experiences perhaps far different from their everyday lives. Each year, around 7 pieces are produced as well as 9 performances by individuals and provide year-round enrichment to the community. The theater is also very active with young ones, with the “Fairie Tale Tea Party” and a children's musical theater program. Texas Tech University is a public university located in Lubbock. Its campus covers 1,839 acres (7.44 square kilometers) which puts it among the largest contiguous campuses in the United States. The Blue Light Live has been wowing Texans with their live musical performances since it opened in 1999. The Buddy Holly Center houses numerous different attractions. The Buddy Holly Gallery is a permanent exhibit which houses memorabilia from Holly's life growing up as well as artifacts from his music career. The center also contains a Fine Arts Gallery which features changing exhibits of contemporary visual arts. The third space is dedicated to the Texans Musicians Hall of Fame which highlights artists from Texas and especially the western part of the state. With so many fun things to see and learn about, the Buddy Holly Center is a fun day out for the whole family.
A contributor to the city's vibrant contemporary music scene, Wreckers is downtown's hub for live music. Its central location means easy accessibility, and you won't have to spend too much time searching for the place, just follow the music. Opened in August 2009 by local Mosaic artist and photographer Pauline Milles, the Glassy Alley is an art studio and gallery that focuses on providing space for upcoming local artists. With the help of local artists, the the gallery space is also used as a venue for workshops for children as well as adults, teaching them the nuances of art-forms like photography, mosaic art, paintings and sculpting. Spread across 3500 square feet (325 square meters), this venue is available for private events, meetings and art workshops. The up-and-coming entertainment district in Lubbock is known as the Depot District. First Baptist Church (FBC) is located at 2201 Broadway and is a close neighbor of the First Christian Church. The church has an expansive structure which houses a wonderful chapel which is furnished with elegant wooden pews; hues of white dominate the chapel and through the stained-glass windows, sunlight flows in abundantly. Their chapel is also used as an entertainment venue for local events which are specially music centered. Backstage Lubbock is the brainchild of Dustin Stone and Brent Murray. Nestled on the former site of Melt, this place is all about live acts ranging from concerts, comedy shows and various other entertaining art forms.
