The Bucu is a hill and island in Lubeck which shares its name with an ancient Slavic castle which is now lies ruins. There is also a fortified monastery on top of the hill and the island underwent major excavations during the early 20th Century. Archaeological findings gave way to believe that the island was inhabited by Slavs from during the 8th to the 12th Century after which the Saxons settled on the land. Pottery, mining houses and ancient mines were excavated as proof of this ancient settlement.
