The Renaissance Theatre Company is the longest running volunteer community theatre in Lynchburg, VA, functioning as a board run charitable arts organization since incorporating in January of 1988. Beginning in August 2020, Renaissance entered into a collaboration with the Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Department to become the “Theatre in Residence” at the historic Miller Center on 301 Grove Street in Lynchburg. This community collaboration allows Renaissance the ability to have multiple venues including a state of the art 180 seat theatre, outdoor parks, and the beautiful Aviary. Renaissance Theatre’s mission is to create opportunities for community involvement in the arts through live theatrical experiences. With productions from the classics to new works, Renaissance engages the community, as both participants and audiences, in outstanding artistic shows that inspire, challenge, entertain, and most importantly, contribute to the vitality of the performing arts in Lynchburg.
Simply known as the Vines Center, this arena with more than 9500 seats is home to the basketball and volleyball teams of Liberty University. The Center also serves as the venue for convocations at the university as well as for concerts. With three practice courts, locker rooms for the teams, weights and training rooms and a dining room, this is a complete athletic facility.
Spanning over 33 acres (13 hectares) of land cover, the Federal Hill Historic District is a national monumental district situated in Lynchburg, Virginia. Across the entire downtown, nearly 500 vital buildings are encompassed in the four residential districts, of which a greatly significant district is the Federal Hill Historic District. A popular outdoor sports venue, it allows visitors to hike, bike, and camp in the woods. The acclaimed Lockn' Festival is hosted here every year.
Spread over 130 acres of land, the James River State Park, is a park that has the commanding view of the river James. Featuring beautiful grass beds with a perfect serene and tranquil atmosphere for a park, it also organizes activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing at the river, etc. One can also enjoy the nature center, gift shops, and the picnic shelters, camping sites, trails, and boat rides, etc.
