"Shoreline Wonderland"
Mackay is a city in eastern Queensland set on the Pioneer River. Although it was named after John Mackay, the expedition leader who explored Pioneer Valley in the mid-nineteenth century, the city is sometimes referred to as sugar city because it produces more than a third of the continent's cane sugar. Mackay boasts eighteen heritage-listed sites, which include the World War I Cenotaph and Holy Trinity Church. With a growing tourism industry, this city along the highly-regarded Queensland coast, with its marina and beautiful beaches, has a lot of potential to attract tourists. Mackay serves as the introduction to the Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday Islands, and Eungella National Park.
