"In the Heart of Manchester"

Christened in honor of Prince Albert, this monumental square in Manchester's historic heart is a landmark and experience in equal measure. The wide plaza was originally designed to accommodate the iconic Albert Memorial, which occupies a prominent part of the square. However, the stellar 19th-century Town Hall nearby vies for attention. Draped in Victorian Gothic grandeur, the town hall and its towering clock tower cast their imposing shadow on the square, even as other Grade II-listed historical edifices and statues adorn its fringes. The square is also famously home to the fountain that was built to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
