The John Rylands Library

John Rylands Library, built during the 1890s, is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of modern Gothic architecture in the country. It houses many rare books and very early manuscripts (both religious and secular) within its stately, imposing interior. On entering, it feels as though one is being transported into a tranquil, well-kept Mancunian secret, with its superb paneling and furniture in Polish oak and bronze art nouveau metalwork. Regular exhibitions and displays highlighting aspects of the library's various collections are held, in addition to guided tours.

The Bridgewater Hall

This fabulous building is one of the major landmarks of Manchester's economic and cultural regeneration. It boasts a state-of-the-art 2340 seat auditorium; home to the world-famous Halle Orchestra and the Manchester Philharmonic. The interior is starkly modern, with an enormous glass façade, high ceilings, brushed metal and chrome details. There is also a superb restaurant and some of the best corporate entertainment facilities in the city. Stop by the stylish gift shop if you're looking to buy greetings cards, music, jewellery or gifts.

Manchester United Museum & Trophy Room

The legendary Manchester United Football Club opened Britain's first purpose-built football museum in 1986. It charts the history of the team for over 100 years, from its birth in 1878 to the present day. Using photographs, sound and video, the museum excels at capturing the imagination and transporting it to important games and events which have marked United's eventful history. With over 1000 exhibits and displays where you can add your own match commentary or check out the FanZone, there is plenty to see. You can also join a guided tour of the stadium, which are held at regular times throughout the days the museum is open.

Old Trafford

Old Trafford, nicknamed "Theater of Dreams," is a famous football (soccer) ground located in Greater Manchester. Opened in 1910, it is home to the celebrated Manchester United Football Club. It has been the setting for prestigious tournaments like the FIFA World Cup, Euro 96 and the 2003 UEFA Champions League Final. The venue was chosen to host nine football matches for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Apart from football, games like shinty, baseball and cricket have also been played here. Legendary artists like Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen have hosted their concerts at Old Trafford. The space is also rented out for private events and functions like weddings and Christmas parties. Tourists can be a part of the regular stadium tours arranged here.

Manchester Art Gallery

Within its impressive neo-Grecian surroundings, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and decorative arts abound, including an internationally famous collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings. Landscape painters such as Stubbs, Gainsborough and Turner can also be found here. Other family-orientated facilities include a cafe, restaurant, gift shop, information center and children's gallery. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible until 9p on the first Wednesday of every month.

Manchester Museum

The Manchester Museum, situated within the campus of Manchester University, offers a riveting peek at numerous relics, artifacts, and objects spanning diverse areas of study.
