Built in 1907, Trancherfield Mill is a popular cotton spinning mill. The main attraction of this mill is a J & E Wood created 2500 Horsepower Triple-Expansion 4 Cylinder Engine. The 2 halves of the engines had been given names of Rina and Helen. Though they had stopped the use of the engine in 1968, the entire mill has been redeveloped.
Astley Green Colliery Museum is the site of former mile which stood nearly three decades ago. Today, it has been beautifully restored and visitors can see the biggest steam operated engine of Europe at this museum. Also on display are industrial artifacts and an enormous engine house. The headgear resting above the shaft is an example of lattice construction, known as the finest specimen in the country. Astley Green Colliery Museum features a wonderful assemblage of steam engines lying stationary as well as a collection mining locomotives.
