Founded in the 17th Century by Franciscan monks, Kloster Kreuzberg is perched atop a mountain, and offers spectacular vistas of the Rhön landscape. It is home to the famous Kreuzberg brewery. The monks have brewed their beers from the 18th Century and though brewery tours are not possible, one can visit the monastery's restaurant and sample their brews and food.
Point Alpha, situated in the border region of Geisa, is a reminder of the Cold War which divided the world into two large power blocs. On display at this museum site are the tanks, helicopters, army vehicles and various artilleries used during the cold war. This site was of strategic importance and was an important watch site during the said time period. Various tours are offered by expert guides at Point Alpha throughout the year for those interested.
Found at an elevation of 950 meters (3,116 feet), the Wasserkuppe in the district of Fulda is regarded as the highest peak of the Rhön Mountains. Located on the southwestern slope of the Thuringian Forest, Burgruine Liebenstein is an ancient hilltop castle in Bad Liebenstein, Germany. An initial structure is believed to have been constructed in the form of a hill fort in as early as the 6th century on this site; the castle in its current form probably dates from the 12th century. Stadtkirche Waltershausen is a protestant church in Germany. It has beautiful baroque interiors and an impressive exterior design. The largest baroque organ in Thuringia is housed in this church. It suffered several blows during the Thirty Years War before being majorly restored in the 20th century. Apart from being a popular religious site for people in the area, the parish church of Waltershausen hosts concerts too.

Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works is one of the major attractions of the city. Managed by Deutsche Bahn, the repair center specializes in the support and upkeep of steam locomotives houses in various railway museums. The maintenance center has been providing expert services since the year 1990 and boasts of a diverse clientele list which includes museum rail engines and railway museums from different regions of Europe. Visitors can explore the site through guided tours, which cover the large locomotive hall housing the wagons and steam-powered engines. The boiler shop and the heating house can also be visited as a part of the guided tour.
Located in the German village of Liebenstein, the similarly named castle is an important historical landmark of the region. Constructed in the 12th Century by local counts and lords, it was later reconstructed and used as a building-stone quarry.
