Monumento Pico El Aguila

Travelling between the cities of Valera and Mérida, you will arrive at the Pico El Aguila (Eagle's Peak). Here stands an impressive monument, built in tribute of Simón Bolivar, who crossed this Andean route during his "Campaña Admirable" (Admirable Campaign) in 1813. The bird featured on the monument, however, is a condor and not an eagle, since this terrain also belongs to the majestic king of the Andean skies.It is an unforgettable experience to be at the zenith of the highest road in Venezuela (4,118 metres above sea level), surrounded by the sheer immensity of mountains and valleys, and overwhelmed by sharp frozen winds.During the tourist season, the atmosphere becomes friendly and animated, with children from the surrounding moorlands offering regional crafts and natural products for sale.
