"Worth a Visit"
Timotes is a town well worth a visit. It is also a good idea to spend the night here, especially if you are coming from Valera or Trujillo, so as to spend the following day riding down the Ruta del Páramo and enjoying its multiple attractions, before you arrive at the city of Mérida. This historical town was founded by Fray Francisco Carmelo Díaz in 1617, in the Timotes Valley, which took its name from the area's original indigenous inhabitants. Near one hundred of the town's citizens participated in the War of Independence against Spanish rule. In Timotes you can still see several colonial constructions, and the church that was built to evangelise the local Native Americans. As is the case in all this zone, agricultural products are of exceptional quality.
