Parque Tibisay

"Legendary"

The great respect that people of Mérida have for history and traditions is evident in the considerable amount of monuments and tributes that exist in honor of figures not only from written history, but from legend as well. This exquisite park preserves the memory of the indigenous Princess Tibisay, who belonged to the Mucujunes peoples, and who still laments the death of her fiancée Murachú, chief of the Sierra Nevada, slain by the Spanish. The streams, small lakes and wooden bridges, well-maintained paths, splendid gardens and leafy trees found in the Tibisay Park, render a worthy tribute to this legendary, broken-hearted princess.
