At the foot of a mountain range, surrounded by freshwater springs, forest, flowers and birds, this is a priviledged accommodation complex and health centre. Only twenty minutes from downtown Merida and at the end of a paved and winding road, you will find an unusual combination of accommodation, entertainment and health facilities. Sixty-five acres of vibrant nature plus modern installations and services, have enabled this resort to boast one of the highest guest return rates in the whole Andes.
Located in the modern neighbourhood of La Pedregosa, at the end of Panamerican Avenue, this establishment is relatively new, and one of Merida's most prestigious hotels. Different from others in its category, its location on the outskirts of the city allows it to offer cabins as well as excellent views of the nearby mountains, and an array of prominent services that fully justify its four stars.
The splendid tour that represents the route through El Valle de San Javier, to the North of Mérida, has a worthy crowning in the Hotel Páramo La Culata, on the foot of the namesake moor. Here you will find an unfolding of facilities and natural beauties perfectly blended in a wise combination of typical constructions with the most luxurious inner atmospheres and technified comforts. Being this a somewhat off-the-way location, the complex offers more facilities for games and distractions than what a guest can enjoy during a single permanence. The Suite rate includes breakfast and evening meal.
So well-known was the name of the Hotel Karibik La Terraza that, after being taken over by the Tamanaco group, the new owners felt the need to promote the slogan "Simply say: La Terraza". No matter what you call it, this is a prestigious three-star establishment located on one side of the road to Los Chorros de Milla and, therefore, only a few minutes from Mérida. In this sector, the view of the Sierra Nevada is magnificent and the climate most accommodating. This, together with the multiple services and facilities of the hotel, turns it into a residential option highly worthy of your attention.
Although there are numerous stone and colonial style constructions in the Andes adjacent to Merida, the spectacular Hotel El Castillo de San Ignacio, opened in 1985 in Mucuchies, offers an unforgettable appearance. From its outer thick walls and red access stairs, to its elegant interior structure and striking medieval rooms, every element will make you feel transported back to the time when knights on horseback went in search of a princess to be rescued.
From the outside, this three-star hotel looks like an apartment building; nevertheless, its lobby and rooms have a warm and elegant atmosphere. This virtue, along with its fine service, reasonable rates and excellent location turns it into one of the hotels frequently booked by tour operators and travel agencies. If you are thinking about a mid-priced hotel for your visit to Merida, try to include this one among your first options. It is also advisable to make reservations well ahead of time. Only fifteen minutes from the city of Mérida itself, along the south-western road to Jaji, El Guanche's seven cabins are scattered throughout ample gardens and several hills, surrounded not only by the beauty of nature, but also by several important tourist attractions.
The farm's English name, Sky Way, is an adaptation of the indigenous name of the nearby town: Escagüey. Likewise, these cabins resemble an American style wood cabin adaptation of genuine Andean cabins. So if you want rustic, but do not want to "rough it" too much, this is the place for you. Five cabins with space for six guests each, one for four, and two for only two people, are what Micata has to offer. Rates include breakfast and supper.
This Inn is peculiar because all the rooms are different from each other, in both capacity and fittings. Although there are only eleven rooms, La Casona de Margot offers guests from a small quarter with double bed to a true apartment-suite with kitchen and bath-tub included. It now also displays an impeccable façade painted in mustard and blue colours, and is an example of a successful refurbishment and adaptation of an old colonial town-house, located only a few blocks from Plaza Bolívar. Its two ample and well-maintained inner patios contribute another element to make sure your stay is a pleasant one.
Some venerable colonial constructions in Mérida have fallen under the advance of urban renovation or the weight of sheer abandonment. Luckily, the tourist boom has made it possible for many of them to be refurbished and turned into comfortable lodgings. Such was the case of the Posada La Montaña, located in the historical quarter and only two blocks from Plaza Bolívar. Here you will find a homely atmosphere, a very functional location for your strolls around the city and, soon, you will also be able to enjoy a genuine restaurant specializing in local cuisine.
