Plaza de los Compositores
"Sing at the Composers' Monument"
After "La Bamba" is there any Mexican song more famous than "Besame Mucho?" If you're looking for an offbeat romantic moment, take your sweetie to Plaza de los Compositores and sing a few bars in front of a bust of the composer. Consuelito Velázquez wrote the pop standard, which was first recorded in 1941, and is honored here. The Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico took an oddly shaped little plot of land in Colonia Condesa and in 2007 installed about 15 statues of composers who stand in one long row like a mariachi band. -George Nunes
