The largest state forest south of the equator, Barakula is a commercial forest that contributes to producing Queensland's pine timber. It is also known for its prolific Cyprus pine, cabbage gum, and ironbark tree growth. Diverse in topography, the park can be explored through hiking trails. Other recreational activities hosted in this scenic park are camping and fishing in either the Charles or the Wongongerra Creek. Wildlife watchers are attracted to the reserve owing to its beautiful landscapes and a variety of endemic fauna.
