Katz's Delicatessen

For more than a 100 years, this huge cafeteria-style Jewish deli has been delighting New Yorkers with their pastrami and brisket sandwiches alongside their scrumptious "kosher-style" meals. The humble eatery, with Formica tables lined up in rows, may not be the ideal place to take a date (unless you want to remind him or her of eating in a school lunchroom), but if you are craving a giant sandwich served with perfect pickles or a couple of kosher hot dogs, there is perhaps no better place than Katz's in the city. There is table service, but most people take a ticket at the door and give it to the counterman when placing their order; they then pay on the way out.

Momofuku Ko

Momofuku Ko has been called one of the greatest restaurants in the world. It is for this reason, and the fact that the restaurant only has a capacity of 12 diners at a time, that securing a seat can be particularly challenging to reserve a seat here. If you are lucky enough to do so, you will be treated to a ten-course meal of Asian fusion dishes that you won't soon forget. Diners sit at the kitchen counter and are served directly by the chefs who whip up delicacies as they serve. Trendy, exclusive and worthy of the hype, Momofuku Ko is a true New York City treasure.

Dos Toros Taqueria

Established by brothers Oliver and Leo Kremer, Dos Toros Taqueria brings burritos from the San Francisco Bay Area to Union Square. These Bay Area-born brothers opened this restaurant as a tribute to their favorite haunt, Gordo's Taqueria. At Dos Toros, you can feast on a delicious variety of tacos, burritos and quesadillas. This place has been lauded for serving the best tacos in the city by countless publications, so it's safe to say the secret is out. A recommendation by the brothers themselves and much approved by their regulars is the burrito with guacamole.

Veselka

While the East Village has long been a hip neighborhood, it was first known as an ethnic community. The Ukrainian restaurant Veselka is a remnant of that history. This combination luncheonette and sidewalk cafe with an Eastern European air features breakfast muffins, bagels, potato pancakes and cheese blintzes among other selections. For lunch, a hearty borscht and their famous pierogies should do the trick, while a dinner meal of kielbasa or veal goulash should leave you smiling and satisfied.

Junoon

Located in Manhattan's Flatiron District, Junoon serves Indian cuisine with a modern influence. The menu items originate from various parts of India and are made with locally sourced ingredients. Delectable choices include the lobster tandoori, vadouvan scallop, and lamb kolhapuri. The dining room is beautifully decorated and gives a welcoming ambiance. Admire the intricately carved arches and columns while enjoying delicious Indian fare.

Rio Rodizio Brazilian Steakhouse & Sushi

Rio Rodizio Brazilian Steakhouse and Sushi, as its name suggests, blends a Brazilian churrascaria with a sushi bar. Guests can savor specialties such as Seaweed Salad, Oriental Gyoza, Ribs of Rio and Far East Fried Calamari. Do not miss their signature sushi rolls with unusual names like Volcano, M-16, Dragon, and Rock and Roll. The Iso Maki Roll, a blend of avocado and white tuna, wrapped in shiso leaf, is particularly recommended. Their salad bar serves fresh vegetable dressings. Your meal is complemented by magnum cocktails like the Rio Love Potion and Sangria such as Forbidden Fruit and Water Melon Sangria.
