In 1993, this state-of-the-art arena was opened to the city of Minnesota. Mariucci arena was named after Gopher-hockey legend John Mariucci, a former University of Minnesota player and head coach. The 10,000-seat facility includes a high-tech ice-refrigeration system, and excellent acoustics. Located on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota, the arena is also home to all Gopher sporting events. It is also a major concert venue in this region of the state.
