Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom House

Located in Belle Plaine, the Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom House was built in 1871 by Stanford Hooper, a local entrepreneur. This historic clapboard-frame house features a low roof, centrally-placed chimneys, an extended front porch that is covered and opens to a sprawling lawn. The house's mid 1800s Victorian-style interior furnishing includes a copper-lined bathtub, a kitchen featuring a well pump, a wooden stove and a courting chair. A two-story outhouse featuring a woodshed used to store wood and coal, and a brick smoke house add to the vintage appeal of this historic home. The five hole outhouse is connected to the main house via a skyway.
