If you want to take a family trip where your entire family can have a lot of fun and also learn something new, head to Weeks Bay Plantation in Fairhope, Alabama. Located off Highway 27, this farm offers a volley of great group activities like berry picking, flower-picking, archery and much more. The farm is quite famous for its produce - over fifteen varieties of completely organic berries - and a trip to Weeks Bay Plantation includes learning a lot about organic farming, berries and such. The plantation also hosts several outdoor concerts during Berry Season; check the website for their schedule of events and open hours.
It has had its fair share of controversies but the Spear Hunting Museum which opened its doors in 2006 has garnered enough publicity to pique the interest of people visiting this place. Established by Gene Morris, a self confessed ‘world’s greatest spear hunter’, who died while spear hunting in 2012. On display are the animals that he speared such as lions, zebras, goats, alligators, elk and more. The specially designed spears are also on exhibit here.
The Weeks Bay Pitcher Plant Bog is a unique attraction to be explored when in Magnolia Springs. The bog, along with the Kurt G. Wintermeyer Nature Trail which allows access to the bog through a boardwalk, features a landscape of towering, fire-resistant pine trees and wetlands. The peculiar terrain has created an unusual habitat for many rare plants and animals, which makes the site an ideal destination for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Visit the bog and take a hike through the boardwalk to witness rare carnivorous plants, various types of butterflies and insects, unique birds like the Red-tailed Hawk, and stunning flowers.
Here you can see alligators in their natural habitat. Walk on elevated boardwalks and see them feeding and nesting in the swamps. Keep an eye out for owls, turtles, frogs and other animals.
