Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle

Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle is set near the Palais des congrès de Montréal and InterContinental Hotel. It was built in 2004 on an old parking space which was a part of the Ville-Marie Expressway. The highlight of this public square is the sculpture, La Joute, by Jean-Paul Riopelle which is highlighted by a wonderful water feature. The fountain is encompassed by lights which gives an illusion of fire and mist around the statue during summer evenings. People throng to see this half and hour spectacle. This square is also surrounded by 88 mature trees from 11 species and are planted in computer circuit patterns.
