Alpine National Park

An alpine oasis that is either vibrantly green or brilliantly snow-dusted depending on the season, this national parkland boasts the best of the Central Highlands and the tallest peak in the Great Dividing Range. It was declared a National Heritage Site in 2008, representing an integral piece of the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves. Brimming with natural abundance, the alpine and montane zones of the park shelter threatened species like the spotted-tree frog, she-oak skink, smoky mouse, and mountain pygmy possum. Showcasing spectacular landscapes, the park's highest point Mount Bogong and other impressive peaks attract bushwalkers, mountain bikers, and back-country skiers. The stretch of Australian Alps Walking Track is a paradise for hikers. Pristine conditions and rich in ecology, the national park is one of the prized possessions of the country.
