Situated on the outskirts of the village, a beautiful pathway leads to the hamlet that also houses the tombs of the de Liedekerke family, this estate's landlords.
Situated on Rue de Thon street in the village of Thon-Samson, the Neoclassical-style Saint Remy Church is a simple stone church. This late-18th century church was built in place of an older church that was heavily damaged. It features a sculpture of Jesus Christ on its facade. In addition to this, it also features several sculptures around its entrance and windows. The church has a single nave, four bays and a tower. Located adjacent to the church is its old cemetery.
Set along Rue Haute Street in Crupet, Saint Martin Church was built in the 12th century. This church is the resting place of Lord Guillame de Carondelet and his partner Jeanne de Brandenbourg. Parts of this Gothic-style church were rebuilt and expanded in the 17th century. In the year 1936, this old church was listed as a historic monument. Adjacent to the church stands a war memorial that is dedicated to those who lost their lives during the world wars.
Located adjacent to Saint Martin Church in the village of Crupet, Cave of Saint Anthony of Padua is a beautiful grotto that was constructed in the year 1903. This unique grotto was designed by Father Joseph Gérard. It features several sculptures and scenes that gives you a peek into the saint’s life. You will also find sculptures of Father Gérard and the Satan. Most of these sculptures are made with terra cotta. Other interesting attractions to explore in the area are Crupet Castle and Saint Martin Church.
Château Rose is located in Orp-le-Petit which belongs to the Orp-Jauche municipality of the Brabant province in Walloon region. It was constructed by Baron Albert Stier in 1783, in place of a previous manor house. The structure that stands today is well restored, with a turret from the early 20th century, rolling meadows and imposing iron gates. An interesting remnant of earlier times is the pillory that stands in the garden as a symbol of justice.
The Château de Houtain-le-Val was constructed in 1129 by the very first lord Walter de Holten of Houtain. It was originally just a keep, but it underwent constant renovations, especially in the late 1800s by an architect named A. Balat. During the World War I, the villagers bravely prevented the German troops from burning the castle down, and thus it continues to stand in the Genappe municipality in the Walloon Brabant province of Belgium. It is now owned by the Moerkerke family.
