This cutting-edge cultural centre has been in the former LU factory (famous little cakes) since 2000. Comprising a theatre/exhibition area, bar (with DJ every night), restaurant and art library, this space follows current artistic trends and puts on productions of dance, drama and music for audiences of up to 4000.
The "Grenier du Siècle" section offers a snapshot of the 20th century: a transparent wall filled with tins containing miscellaneous objects brought by the public in 1999. These objects will be passed on to their descendants at 5pm in 2100!
This multiplex cinema is just a 15-minute tram ride or car journey from the city centre (the cinema has a secure car park). It has several auditoria, each one with comfortable seating and equipped with digital sound: all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the film! No cinema experience however would be complete without the inevitable snacks, games and sweets, which are of course available too.
Each film is shown five or six times a day, with an additional midnight showing programmed for the most popular releases. The cinema's Ciné Kid scheme means that kids pay less on specific days, whilst a free Internet stand is available for web fans.
Machines of the Isle of Nantes is a one-of-a-kind art project. A team of artists and machinists led by François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice have created whimsical, life-size motion architecture in the warehouses of former shipyards in Nantes. The main components of the installation include the Great Elephant, the Marine Worlds Carousel and the Heron Tree. Opened to the public in 2007, visitors can take a ride on the wooden and steel elephant or a flight on the wings of the steel heron. The carousel is made up of underwater creatures and aquatic fauna that are sure to delight visitors of all ages.
