Macky Auditorium Concert Hall

Macky Auditorium is the venue of choice for many orchestras and it is the primary home of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. It is run under the learned hands of the internationally acclaimed director, Theodore Kuchar, who also leads the prestigious Australian Festival of Chamber Music every year, in fact, this Philharmonic has long been recognized as one of the finest in the West. Guest appearances have featured the likes of Itzhak Perlman, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, and Sarah Chang.

University of Colorado Museum of Natural History

Take the kids on an expedition deep into the natural history of Colorado. The exhibits entice the visitor to explore the mysteries of native cultures and prehistoric lands as well as the region's flora and fauna. There are six exhibit halls which contain over three-million geological, archaeological paleontological and zoological specimens. The Discovery corner offers kids hands-on adventures and other interesting features include the Dinosaur Hall, Anasazi artifacts and a bug room. New exhibits are featured at the museum every month. Admission is free although donations are suggested.

University of Colorado Boulder

A visit to Boulder is not complete without a stroll or bike ride through the historic main campus of the University of Colorado. Established in 1876, the year Colorado became a state and Denver became a capital, the university reflects visions of the past while keeping with the growing technological age. The Red Rural Italian Renaissance architecture, implemented on buildings erected after 1912, lush landscaping and gorgeous views of the Flatirons make this one of the most attractive campuses in the nation. Guided tours are available.

Naropa University

In 1974 Tibetan scholar Chogyam Trungpa established the Naropa Institute as a liberal arts college concentrating on contemplative studies. That same year Allen Ginsberg and Ann Waldman opened the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets at the institute. Accredited in 1986, the institute draws students from around the world. Focusing on social science, humanities and creative arts, the college offers B.A., M.A., and M.F.A. degree programs. Periodic public lectures from prominent speakers cover topics from art therapy to balancing science and religion in everyday life.

Boulder Theater

This posh venue has graced Downtown, Boulder since 1906. Originally opened as an opera house, the historic building underwent a massive renovation in the 1980s. Located just off the Pearl Street Mall, the complex hosts nightly concerts, film screenings and other community events. While it remains a popular venue for local entertainers, the theater's cabaret-style seating, preserved art deco ornamentation and state-of-the art sound and lighting system attract national and international artists also.

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art

Located in a historic two-story warehouse, the museum exhibits modern creations by local, national and international artists. Featuring three diverse viewing areas and more than 10,000 square feet of space, the non-profit museum acts as a local educational center promoting the aesthetic importance of visual and performing art. The space is also a haven for developing artists and hosts an array of photography, cinema and theatrical programs. The museum also has a funky adjunct gift shop that is a great place to browse around after checking out the latest show.
