The structure housing the Boonton Historical Society and Museum was originally built as a personal abode of Dr. John Taylor, who lived here with his spouse Adelaide Kanouse. Dating back to the year 1898, it was converted into a history museum in the year 1959. The museum was born out of the efforts of a few local merchants who were keen to promote and conserve Boonton's rich history and culture. Boonton Historical Society and Museum boasts of a wide assemblage of historic artifacts related to the town's eventful past. Additionally, it also arranges for guided tours and educative programs to a lively audience visiting this spectacular example of Victorian Gothic and Colonial Revival architectural styles.
Hendrick I. Lott House is one of the oldest standing structures in the city that was built in the 18th Century. Constructed in Dutch Colonial style architecture, the house adds a historic appeal to the vicinity. It has been believed that the house was once inhabited by African slaves who were purchased by the Lott family. After slavery was abolished in 1827, they freed and hired the slaves for employment. With such rich history, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, In recent times it has undergone many restoration and excavation procedures where a number of historic articles have been found.
The Sandy Ground Historical Society was established in honor of the community to have a free black status which means the area the blacks are freed of slavery. The museum aims to educate the adults and children about the history of the town. There are various exhibits showcasing the life of the town in its early years like photographs, art, and other articles. The museum is functioned by the Sandy Ground Historical Society where they host events celebrating the culture of black history.
Located in northern Manhattan by the Hudson River, the Mink Building is a five-story structure that was a part of a large brewery complex that occupied this land in the past. The German-American style red brick building is one of the few remaining structures used by the massive beer brewing industry that thrived in this area in the 19th century. Today, the building not only offers rental spaces but also houses a number of studios, galleries, and many interesting venues.
