Established in 1988, this museum in California is known for its rare collection of classic and unique automobiles. This massive glass and granite structure houses more than 120 classic cars dating back from the 1890s. It showcases one of the earliest works of automobile art in its granite and mirror rooms. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art houses a permanent collection of over 15,000 works, including more than 4,700 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and 9,000 plus photographs. Originally opened in 1995, the museum has exhibited the works of Henri Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Dorothea Lange, Paul Klee, Cindy Sherman, Matthew Barney and many contemporary artists. Pinball machines, although they look like cheery little things, have a troubled past. From their rise to fame during the depression to their ban in 1940s, they've seen a few ups and downs. The Pacific Pinball Museum, established in 2004 by Michael Schiess, commemorates their story. Featuring some 400 pinball machines, some of them dating back to 1879, this museum traces their history quite interestingly. A trip to Angel Island is incomplete without a visit to the Immigration Station. This is the site where a large number of Asian and other immigrants were detained in the early 20th Century. Nicknamed the "Ellis Island of the West" after its New York counterpart, this station features recreated rooms with bunk beds as well as spaces and original graffiti that are a window into the life of an immigrant.
