The city of Birmingham played an integral part in the history of baseball in the South which in turn amplified baseball in the entire U.S. Here the galleries display the largest collection of Southern League baseball memorabilia in the country. Some of the exhibits include Satchel Paige's uniform, the McCallister Trophy, 1500 signed baseballs and much, much more. The mini Rickwood Field (oldest ballpark in America) exhibit is also one of the highlights and the museum also holds one of the last known contracts from the early 20th-Century. Red Mountain is the historic site where native hunters and settlers identified the red powder in the region. Around the period of 1819, the settlers began to use the powder obtained from the rock for coloring different implements. By 1871, when industrial revolution began, it was founded that the area had iron reserves beneficial for the progress. Thereafter mining activities and industrial revolution began in the region. Known as the most beneficial site of the era, a museum is housed in the area. The museum offers a good view of the red mountain rock and offers information about the industrial transition that occurred in the region.
Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument was set up in 2017 as a mark of respect for the contributions of the people of the Civil Rights Movement. Non-violent protests were a major part of this movement against racial discrimination where Birmingham played a significant role. The park also houses the A.G. Gaston Motel, which was the headquarters of the Birmingham campaign and the residence of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was an important pioneer of this movement. The National Monument also hosts other historic sites like the 16th Street Baptist Church and the Kelly Ingram Park which you can visit.

The trail leading to King's Chair in Oak Mountain State Park is considered fairly challenging. This 4.2-miles (6.8 kilometers) long hiking trail is known as King's Chair Loop. This waymarked trail passes through the forest and several rocky areas making it slightly difficult. Once at the top, the King's Chair Overlook offers unobstructed views of the Oak Mountain State Park. This overlook gets its name from a rock formation that resembles a chair. Other overlooks to explore in the area are Pulpit Rock and Eagle's Nest.
