Previously a private park owned by the Semet family, Tenbosch was opened to the public in 1982. The park was a garden at the back of the family house which was planted in the 19th Century and later developed into a botanical garden by Jean-Louis Semet who collected several rare varieties of flora. Today, the park boasts around 70 different varieties of rare trees including Chinese tretracentron, Loebner magnolia, Farges catalpa and Mongolian lime. Surrounded by a wall the park offers an unexpected sanctuary of serenity in a busy district making it quite popular among the locals.
Chez Pias is the Belgian outpost of the record company [PIAS]. What was once the office of the newspaper Le Peuple where you could hear the incessant noise of the press, has now been turned into the swanky administrative office, performance venue and music store of [PIAS], where the only sounds are of the musicians and singers who regularly perform here. You will find vintage vinyl and records as well as contemporary albums in the store. The concert hall has played host to artists such as Agnes Obel, Tom Waits and Pixies, to name a few. The space also houses a bar and a restaurant called Humphrey, making this a truly unique spot that celebrates all the pleasures of life.
An old farmhouse with high walls that acted as fortifications, the La Haye Sainte is located near the Charleroi-Brussels escarpment in Brussels. Playing a significant role in the Waterloo battle, the place was the resting area of the German garrisons who pulled down its large gates to light a fire during a massive downpour. Currently a privately owned property and residence, the walls of this monumental structure house King's German Legion (KGL) and French memorials. Just outside the premises is a monument dedicated to the soldiers and officers of KGL.
