A gem in the Antwerp province, near the small Gestel village, Rameyen Castle is an ancient edifice reported to have existed in the 14th Century with a fortified keep that went back as early as the 13th Century. Today, the castle houses the Claartje de Gruyter Gallery which has beautiful displays of antique furniture and tapestry, not just from the castle but from around the world.
The Château de Houtain-le-Val was constructed in 1129 by the very first lord Walter de Holten of Houtain. It was originally just a keep, but it underwent constant renovations, especially in the late 1800s by an architect named A. Balat. During the World War I, the villagers bravely prevented the German troops from burning the castle down, and thus it continues to stand in the Genappe municipality in the Walloon Brabant province of Belgium. It is now owned by the Moerkerke family.

An old farmhouse with high walls that acted as fortifications, the La Haye Sainte is located near the Charleroi-Brussels escarpment in Brussels. Playing a significant role in the Waterloo battle, the place was the resting area of the German garrisons who pulled down its large gates to light a fire during a massive downpour. Currently a privately owned property and residence, the walls of this monumental structure house King's German Legion (KGL) and French memorials. Just outside the premises is a monument dedicated to the soldiers and officers of KGL.
The name Château des Cailloux refers to the chalky soil and red sand surrounding the castle, which was perfectly suited to cultivate a vineyard. The castle was constructed between 1881 and 83 in the Renaissance Revival style, however, its modern roof was built in 1952 after a fire damaged the original one, and contrasts sharply with the historic structure. The halls of Château des Cailloux can be hired for events and receptions, with a maximum capacity of 250 people, a well-furnished kitchen and free catering service.
Sombreffe Castle, or Château de Sombreffe as it is locally known, is a medieval castle whose origins can be traced back to the 13th Century, The castle has enjoyed a long and colorful history, evidence of which is aplenty. At the time of its establishment, the castle took the form of a simple keep. The addition of a curtain wall with towers, turrets and an additional keep transformed the humble structure into a graceful bastion. Today, the castle is used as a venue for private events, wedding receptions and conferences. Although privately owned, the courtyard is open at all times and visitors are free to explore.
