Alma mater of eminent personalities like Kristen Wiig, Greg Kinnear and Nicole Richie, the University of Arizona is a developmental institute with a futuristic stride, yet staying grounded to its roots. The university has been a pioneer in the fields of planetary sciences, and has also worked closely with NASA on a range of projects. University of Arizona was founded in 1885, before Arizona was even a state, making it the first university in the state. In 1891, the first classes were held in the university's first building, Old Main, with only 35 students. Today, Old Main is still in use, along with many more buildings that have sprouted over the years. Its campus, a canvas of quadrants and rolling, open fields, the university is home to the charismatic and athletic Arizona Wildcats.

This district was once considered the Mexican-American side of Tucson and has been called Barrio Viejo or Barrio Libre since its inception. The area has preserved its distinctly Mexican roots with flat-roofed, mud-brick houses and roofs made from saguaro ribs and packed dirt, which provides great insulation in the extreme Tucson climate. Some of Tucson's oldest structures can be found here and many of them have been nicely restored, painted in vibrant colors and inviting visitors for a memorable stroll.

This building, designed in 1929 by Los Angeles architect M. Eugene Durfee, once belonged to the chain of movie theaters showing Fox Studio productions and was decorated with those Art Deco motifs that were typical of the movie houses of the period. After long years of falling into disrepair and neglect since 1974, it is now in the process of being renovated and revitalized, due to the much-publicized efforts of a group of conservationist citizens. Today it hosts a variety of live performances, including concerts, musicals, and lectures.
