This is one place you should not judge by its cover. Located in Buffalo's historic Allentown district, the restaurant looks like a dive. However, it has one of the best inexpensive wine lists in the city, not to mention excellent food and service. In the kitchen, the chefs feature dishes like a traditional 'surf 'n turf' and steamed mussels in a Scotch Bonnet Pepper broth. As a bonus, Mother's Restaurant the restaurant is open late, and there's an outdoor patio for warm summer evenings.
This elegant contemporary restaurant offers a new spin on the traditional steak and seafood restaurant. While it is elegant, you can come dressed in business casual. The décor features dark colors, leather upholstery on the chairs and booths, and a unique glass-enclosed two-story wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant has been given 3.5 stars out of 4 by the Buffalo News food critic. Start out your dining experience with an appetizer from the raw bar, including oysters, clams and shrimp. Other appetizers include crab cakes and fried calamari salad. Entrees include Black Angus steaks, filet mignon, NY strip, porterhouse, and sirloin, as well as pork chops, lamb chops, and seafood. Save room for dessert, like crème brulee, key lime pie, warm cinnamon apple crisp, and banana cream pie.-Christine A. Smyczynski
