Golden State Theatre rose to fame in the days when sound was still a distant dream in cinema and your favorite actors had to rely merely on facial expressions. With a capacity to seat around 1600 people, the place was probably the largest in California. In spite of the new theaters cropping up every decade, Golden State still continues to rule the hearts of Monterey's residents. Movies, orchestras and musical concerts entertain thousands every week.

The 22-acre Monterey Fairgrounds are characterized by eight buildings, each serving a different purpose. The venue has seven smaller venues within itself that have a seating capacity ranging from 300 to 5800. Each of the venues are equipped with modern facilities.
