An incredible attraction on Dubai's extraordinary map, the Palm Jumeirah is one of Dubai's most iconic emblems. This beautiful island, which is connected to Dubai's mainland, is a man-made attraction, which adds to its uniqueness. The construction work for the island commenced in 2001 and went on for five years, following which this marvelous landmark was opened to the public for commercial activities and tourism. A striking testament to the city's architectural advancements and grandeur, the island was created using reclaimed land and has been crafted in the shape of a palm tree, which gives it its name. Its highlight is the 16 frond-like pathways that are denoted by an alphabet, with a surrounding dome. Jutting out gracefully into the Persian Gulf, the Palm Jumeirah is highly recommended for anyone visiting the city.
