Kiltartan Gregory Museum

Kiltartan was originally a school, built by the Gregory family of Coole Park, of which Lady Gregory the literary revivalist was one of the best-known members. The museum contains first editions of books by literary luminaries such as W.B. Yeats. Rare manuscripts, estate maps and memorabilia associated with the Irish Literary Revival are also on display. Step back in time in the early twentieth-century schoolroom, which is reminiscent of the classrooms which appear in the movie "Angela's Ashes". The Custom House

Built in the 1760s, this beautiful building is located in the heart of the city, where the River Shannon meets the River Abbey. The structure was designed by Italian architect Davis Ducart, and the architecture seen here is characteristic of his style. Askeaton Friary

Built by the Earl of Desmond in 1398 for the Franciscans, this friary was in use until 1714. Today all that remains is a ruin. This is a structure steeped in history, with occasionally gory moments. It was burned in 1579 and some of the friars were massacred. The Friary has some of Ireland's finest stone carvings, a nave and chansel, and also a north transept. Of great interest is the excellently preserved cloister, which is situated to the south of the church. In the northeast corner is a representation of St. Francis. The dormitory area is situated over the cloister, which is usual in the Franciscan style of building. Some other features of architectural importance are the windows and the wall seats.

Chris Doswell's Gallery is a unique space, which was designed with the purpose of promoting the work of Irish printmakers. This gallery exhibits a collection of entirely original works ranging from etchings to engravings.
