Located quite close to Linz, the Stift Sankt Florian also known as Saint Florian's Priory was built on the same site as the grave of Saint Florian who was a Christian martyr who drowned in the Enns River. The first abbey was built in 800 CE and the present Baroque structure was constructed between 1686 and 1751. The monastic library is a beauty to look at but the mammoth collection of over 150,000 titles is the real draw that stuns any visitor into awe. Concerts and other cultural events are often held within the confines of this glorious monastery so if you get a chance to catch one, do not miss it.
