The lake was divided into two smaller parts due to a rock fall in the adjacent mountain range and are connected to each other by Talwasserscheide. Today the lake is a very popular bathing and fishing area and is also one of the cleanest beaches in the town. Local families are often spotted near the lake for a nice dip during a warm summer day.

Stift Millstatt is a former monastery of the Benedictine order which was founded in the 11th Century. For hundreds of years it was considered a center for religion and culture in the upper regions of the Carinthian province. Now, only the monastery church is still active while the cloister of the monastery itself has been transformed into a museum. Along with displays of the Benedictine and Jesuit history of the monastery itself, it also has exhibits of artifacts dating back to the Neolithic Age and Bronze Age. There is a beer garden on the grounds of the former monastery where you can get refreshments.
Found within the Hohe Tauern National Park, Stappitzer See is an alpine lake from the last glacial period. Regarded as a resting place for a wide range of species of birds such as western yellow wagtail, little grebe, Eurasian crag martin, Alpine swift and black-throated loon, the lake was declared a Special Protection Area in 2008.

Aguntum is the ruins of a Roman site located in East Tirol in Austria. A museum has been built over the atrium which contains painted tombstones, bronze objects, coins, interpretive displays and pottery masks. A video is shown of the history of Aguntum and visitors are given an opportunity to dress up in Roman attire. There is also a display of the excavations, tunics, helmets and armors.
Weissensee is a freshwater lake that is very popular in the township for bathing and several activities that take place here during summer and winter months. Four boats and one speedboat are the only water vehicles that operate in the lake and the water body comes under the protected zone of Austria. Located within the Gailtal Alps, it is the largest bathing lake at this height in the entire city and houses fish species such as pike, tench, perch, carp and trout. During winters, the lake freezes completely and many ice skating and skiing tournaments are held at this site.

Gailtaler-Heimatmuseum is situated in a castle that belonged to the Georg Essl. It is notable for its three-floor dice shaped construction and reflects different architectural styles. This museum houses historical artifacts from the three surrounding valleys (Gailtal, Gitschtal and Lesachtal). After viewing the exhibits you can relax and enjoy coffee, ice cream or cold drinks at the museum cafe.
