Hendrick I. Lott House is one of the oldest standing structures in the city that was built in the 18th Century. Constructed in Dutch Colonial style architecture, the house adds a historic appeal to the vicinity. It has been believed that the house was once inhabited by African slaves who were purchased by the Lott family. After slavery was abolished in 1827, they freed and hired the slaves for employment. With such rich history, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, In recent times it has undergone many restoration and excavation procedures where a number of historic articles have been found.
Established in 2011, New York Distilling Co. is among the three oldest distilleries in the city. The brainchild of Tom Potter and Allen Katz, this distillery specializes in American gin and offers varieties in their distilled beverages. These include the likes of the creations like Dorothy Parker, Perry’s Tot, Mister Katz's and Chief Gowanus. You can try their spirits, cocktails and other beverages at their attached bar, The Shanty. Weekend tours are available of the distillery where you can see how they make their gins. You can even buy their products on-site.
Formed in 1974, the Asian American Arts Centre has been promoting and preserving the artwork and art form of the Asian Community in New York. The Art Centre has managed to create an archive of the art pieces they have collected since and many of them are showcased in exhibitions and events. Creating a platform for the artist and promoting the growth of the Asian community, this art centre is definitely worth visiting.
