Moe's Southwest Grill has taken the burrito market by storm and did so by offering customers a healthier option to the typical greasy, fatty alternative. Served up with no trans-fat, no MSG or additives, the Moe's way is homemade and prepared without microwaves or freezers. Choose from smaller items like chips and guacamole or try one of their signature burritos or Taco Salad. Moe's is popular with the college crowds and offers very reasonable prices for their food.
Katana offers decently authentic Japanese fare in a pleasant, cozy setting. The staff are extremely friendly and will answer any hibachi questions you might have. The hibachi is well worth ordering - the meat, or seafood, comes perfectly flame-grilled, retaining excellent texture and flavor. The rolls are standard American-Japanese restaurant fare, and decently priced; there are some good sushi / sashimi combo options on the menu. Call for reservations.
David Hausmann and John Porter's latest venture takes the humble toast and gives it all kinds of delicious avatars. Located in the old Buddy Baker building that has now been transformed into a cozy, warm space with the use of large windows, wood, and exposed bricks, the restaurant has a fully-stocked bar in the center and a few tables, with a brick wall separating the dining area from the kitchen. The bar serves a decent variety of draft beers, cocktails, wines, tea, and coffee, but what draws the crowd here is the marvelous creations made from black sesame milk bread. Both sweet and savory toast dishes are available, with options such as Egg Salad with Kimchi Pesto and Taco Pig Carnitas as well as plenty of delightful desserts made from fruits, cinnamon, ice cream and, of course, toast.
If you're looking for some serious, down home breakfast, then Handsome Biscuit is the perfect place for you. As the name might suggest, the order of the day here are sweet potato biscuits, cut open and piled high with delicious eggs, meats, cheeses and more to make for a monster of a sandwich. Popular sandwiches include the Hella Fitzgerald, with fried chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy, and the A.C. Slawter, with pulled pork, apple slaw and hot sauce.
