Cafe Bazar is, along with Café Tomaselli, a classic Viennese coffeehouse. In the summer months, the combination of its wonderful terrace and its spectacular location on the banks of Salzach River mean brisk business for this cafe - it can be a bit of a challenge to get a seat. Yet in winter as well as summer, this elegant, spacious, high-ceiling coffeehouse is a haunt of students, actors, celebrities, shoppers, Salzburg's elderly and the city's intellectuals. Naturally, a huge range of national and international newspapers are available daily. If the waiter is in some way unfriendly, relax, it's part of the experience.
Afro Cafe is a place dedicated to African culture, and has a cafe which serves local African breakfast items, radish foam soup, Biltong, spinach dumplings, ostrich burger, spare ribs and more. They also serve coffees sourced from Africa, giving a different flavor to the beverage. There is also a store, where one can purchase African food items and art pieces.
Together with the Müllner Bräustübl and the StieglKeller, this is one of the most popular beer gardens in town, especially for those with a penchant for Weissbier (white beer). In the summer months plenty of people drop by for an after-work drink and a bite to eat (goulash with noodles is especially popular). Groups should book in advance, and can even visit the historic "Small Brewery" by appointment.
In the Hotel Sacher, is an excellent cafe called Cafe Sachar. The atmosphere is elegant and weather permitting, you can sit outside and enjoy the views of the Old Town and its fortress. The cafe and the Salzachgrill which is situated in the same hotel, both offer hot meals on a daily basis. If you are here for tea, then try the house special, which is the famous 'Sacher Torte' (a chocolate cake). This can also be posted throughout the world as a present. If this sounds like a nice gift idea, then go to the Confiserie Shop around the corner, where the cakes are packed in wooden boxes and sent off.
Ikarus offers a unique gastronomic experience that is sure to leave a mark on your memory. It is difficult to predict the menu here since the restaurant invites a new chef every month. While a Japanese chef may treat you to authentic delights, a chef from the United States will have fusion cuisine to offer. Platters feature artful presentations and adventurous combinations that are sure to please your palate. Vegetarian options are also available here. This restaurant serves as a multi-purpose space and is also used for the Red Bull exhibition. Reservations are recommended.
This place is a typical Austrian pub. The idea is simple, but perfect. Wooden tables and chairs placed in two rooms, of which one is predestined for eating, the other for the serious drinking. In summer guests can even enjoy the luxury of tables on the "University Square" in Salzburg's city centre. On the menu one can find good, simple Austrian dishes, which can be purchased at a fair price, accompanied by a traditional beer, wine or other drink. Happiness can be achieved so easily!!! Especially in summer a cool and cheap beer on one of the liveliest squares of Salzburg can prove to be very relaxing. Other places are too expensive anyway. Good beer and good meals, served by friendly and fast staff. What more can you ask for?
Guests of this pub can look forward to very good food and warm, friendly service.
Dine on fine yet down-to-earth cooking in the castle halls furnished with antiques.
