Encompassing a mammoth 1,749.91 acres (7.08 square kilometers), Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is situated in Brookline Township, and is a stirring remnant of the Battle of Wilson Creek, an event embedded in the pages of world history. Established on April 22, 1960, this ancient ground is dotted with an array of historically as well as nationally significant remains like derelict cannon wheels and the antiquated Ray House which has been restored to its original glory. The emblematic 'Bloody Hill' also forms a part of this ground, which is crisscrossed by numerous exploratory trails. The Wilson's Creek Civil War Museum is sheltered by the site's visitor's center, and is a repository of artifacts and exhibits which illustrate the nuances of the war, whereas the Hulston Library elaborately charts out the histories, secrets and episodes of the Civil War. Having been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1966, this site solemnly preserves the battle's storied past.
A giant metallic fork entering the ground is an unusual sight in an otherwise normal setting of a brick-walled office building. Rising for a height of 35 feet and weighing approximately 11 tons, the fork reaches up to the top-most floor of the three-storeyed building. Installed in 1998, the plaque here claims that this fork is the world's tallest one, something that draws people to this place.
