The Filmoteca is temporarily closed for renovations. Screenings are now being held in the Salon de Actos de IVAM Calle Guillem de Castro 118, and the Institut Français, Moro Ziet 6. The Filmoteca is one of the oldest cinemas in Valencia. It's subsidised by the government of Valencia. This cinema bases its programme of films on already released films. These are usually included in seasons that correspond to an actor, a director, a theme, a cinematic tendency or a different school. These can be either foreign or Spanish productions. It's worth noting that it is one of the few cinemas that screen short films. It is, at the same time, one of the most active cinemas during the annual Muestra de Cine del Mediterranni (Mediterranean Film Festival).
This old Dominican convent is found on a centric square at the top of the most important commercial street in Valencia, Colón. The building dates back to the time of Jaime I and the conquest of the city that was in Moorish hands at the time. Some of the noteworthy features of the building include the Gothic cloister from the 14th century, the Capilla de los Reyes — Kings' chapel, built in the 15th century and the Renaissance cloister dating from the 16th century. This former religious building has been given a completely different role from that of prayer: it is the headquarters for the military's offices here in Valencia.
This church is also known as "The Congregation". It was built in 1725 and it stands out for the simplicity of its design. The building was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument in 1982. The church's architectural model corresponds to the "Il Gesú" church in Rome which had enormous repercussions throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. It consists of a central nave divided into three parts and various side chapels. It really is an interesting church to visit, though you may do so only during mass.
The Centro de Artesanía de la Comunidad Valenciana houses a permanent exhibition of traditional local crafts, including the famous Valencian ceramics. You can buy some of the goods on display along with their quality guaranteed certificates. There's also a crafts training school here where the silversmith's guild, among others, teach their trade to aspiring craftsmen. The center is located beside the Casa de la Cultura in the grounds of the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda. Encouraging creativity in women and promoting the artistic talents of the region, this place forms an important part of the city's cultural scene.
