The foundation of Fondazione Querini Stampalia was laid in the year 1869. It was made to order by Venetian Querini Stampalia family's last successor Conte Giovanni. Located in Castello, the San Lio Church occupies a good portion of Campo San Lio. The historic place of worship was built somewhere in the 9th Century as a church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It was in 1054 that it was consecrated again, this time dedicated to Saint Leone. Over the years and decades, this very church has been rebuilt and renovated several times; as of today, it sports the furnishings from its make-over in the 18th Century. The inside of the little, charming church is surprisingly plush and comprises of great artworks like the main altarpiece by Palma Vecchio, the fresco of St. James by Titian and the beautiful sculpture Four Evangelists by Pietro Lombardo, to name a few.
A unique aristocratic palace, Palazzo Grimani was the family house of Antonio Grimani. The charming, historic structure still stands out with its original architecture and gorgeous decorations and is now home to several splendid artworks. Located in the heart of the city, Scuole Grande di San Teodoro is one of eight "Scuole Grande" churches in Venice. The term Scuole Grande refers to all-male upper-class religious confraternities who were dedicated to self-improvement, fellowship, and charity. This church was founded in 1258 when the confraternity settled in the San Salvador Church and expanded in 1551 due to a plethora of followers. In the 17th Century, the internal stairs were constructed, Giuseppe Sarde built the marble façade and Longhena created the balconies and art on the lateral façade. Today Scuole Grande di San Teodoro hosts cultural events and concerts as well as seminars and conferences in its premises.
San Bartolomeo is a beautiful church located near the scenic region of San Marco. This church was established in 837 CE and was initially devoted to Saint Demetrius. During the 12th Century, this church was majorly renovated and used as a German place of worship. With the course of time, the church faced several damages and was reconstructed into its present form in 18th Century. The interiors of this church boast of artifacts and elements from 1700s and attract many art, culture and architecture enthusiasts.
