Located in New Haven's scenic Lighthouse Point Park, this historic carousel dates back to 1916. With over 70 characters to choose from, as well as two chariots, you can take a spin on ornate horses and camels. This museum and preserve is both a center for ecological preservation of the Garvies Point surroundings, and an archaeological resource in the study of Native American culture on Long Island. There are several educational programs offered to classes, as well as the provision of materials for teachers to incorporate into their teaching curricula. The museum itself documents the area's glacial development, as well as displaying many fascinating Native American artifacts, found locally. Nearby is the beach at Garvies Point Preserve, where there is an opportunity to view fossils, lignite and sandstone deposited from the ages of dinosaurs, 70 million years ago. Maintained and managed by the Amity & Woodbridge Historical Society, the Darling House Museum dates back to the 1770s. This house belonged to Thomas Darling, a prominent citizen of Connecticut. Currently, this house museum opens its doors on special occasions only, but you can also avail group tours with prior appointment.
