We have read about floating farms in storybooks and perhaps sci-fi movies. But the idea isn't as rare as you think. Groundwork's Science Barge is an innovative farm on a boat. Anchored in Saw Mill river, a tributary of the Hudson river, this barge has a greenhouse sustained by inspiring green technologies. Bought by Groundwork from New York Sun Works for a meagre $2, it was conceptualized by American environmental engineer Ted Caplow. Walk into the barge through the dock walkways, and you will see extensive plant cultivation inside. From flowers, fruits to vegetables, the science barge houses a variety of greens. The well maintained farm works completely on renewable energy and stored rainwater which can be reused time and again. It is a great learning experience, especially for kids, who need to learn about preservation of natural resources.
Spanning 161 acres (65 hectares), Tibbetts Brook Park is one of the city's oldest public parks. From fishing and hiking to numerous sports facilities, the park offers excellent outdoor opportunities.
