Set in a building that dates back to 1926, Townhouse Bar & Grill has undergone many changes over the years. Under owner and Executive Chef Ellen Hope Rosenberg's care, however, it has transformed into a neighborhood gem that people in the know can't stop raving about. Don't be deceived by the appearance; this seemingly small restaurant can accommodate as many as 160 people between the main dining room and flowery patio. When here, the coconut BBQ sauce baby back ribs, grilled pork porterhouse and smoked chicken risotto are some of the dishes you must try. A selection of wines and draft beers is on offer, and you can even bring your own for a corkage fee.
The Grand Oaks Restaurant & Sports Lounge is a bit deceiving. The large awning outside makes it seem like it would be an old-fashioned early bird restaurant, but once you step inside you'll feel the excitement and energy in the air. Grand Oaks is one of the best places to go if you're looking to watch the game with some beers among other sports fanatics. During playoffs of any sport, Grand Oaks is practically exploding with competitive team spirit. In addition to pints and pitchers of draft brew, they have a limited menu of bar foods like burgers, wings and pizza.
This little Irish pub has the distinction of having the oldest liquor license in the city of Oakland, since 1933. Inside you will find a large, comfortable bar with smiling bartenders ready to pour you a pint. Dozens of beers and ales are on tap. There is a pool table, video games, a fireplace and Irish pictures and paraphernalia adorning the walls, from pictures of JFK and early 20th century rugby players to advertisements for the Ulster Society picnic. The crowd is friendly and mellow. Come for a pint and catch a soccer or football game on one of the TVs.

Named after a short story by Oakland's beloved Jack London, Make Westing is a great space for almost any kind of night out, with its sparse yet sophisticated (and on theme) decor. The most special part of this bar, however, are the indoor bocce ball courts, Oakland's first. The owners are both born and raised in Oakland, so you know that Make Westing will always be an authentic hometown spot.
The Beta Lounge is a small bar that offers fantastic cocktails. They have a nice selection of wines as well as sake and beer. If you get hungry while enjoying your drink, the lounge has snack items, including pizza, spring rolls and a cheese platter. If you like music come on a weeknight where the lounge hosts DJs.
